The annual Hervey Bay Whale and Hervey Bay Seafood Festivals are joining to create the Hervey Bay Ocean Festival. Running for 9 days over August 2016, the festival celebrates everything that the oceans of Hervey Bay have to offer.
On Saturday 13th August, festivities kick off with the Blessing of the Fleet, where the Fraser Coast's whale watch boats receive a traditional blessing at the Hervey Bay Marina; ensuring a safe and prosperous season. Visitors can tour the whale watch vessels, explore market stalls and sample a variety of delicious wine and cheeses, while enjoying fireworks and live entertainment.
On 14th August, Hervey Bay Seafood Festival
begins, serving up a delicious range of fresh, local produce plus entertainment, cooking demonstrations, competitions and more.
On Saturday 20th August, the Whale Festival Parade and Concert presents an enchanting spectacle of lights and floats representing the humpbacks' annual migration. There will also be a fantastic free concert showcasing Australian and local artists.
Last on the festival line-up is the Paddle Out for Whales on 21st August, raising awareness of whale conservation. Both
visitors and locals jump on anything that floats, such as paddleboards and kayaks, taking a stand for whales and sending the message that whales need to be protected.
In addition to the festival lineup, there will also be a variety of activities across Hervey Bay, including movie screenings, workshops and education programs.
